Leadership

Rachel Hugo, President

I am a senior Healthcare Management major in the fast track program for my MHA, and I work as a Decision Support Analyst for Texas Institute for Surgery. The healthcare industry has been a passion of mine for many years, after experiencing the terminal illness of a loved one.  Healthcare Management is such a unique field, requiring a delicate balance between the clinical side and the business management side.  It requires a unique mind, capable of working with vastly different personalities.

The HMA is an amazing place to learn about the industry, and learn to network with the very people with whom we will be working after graduation.  We are also the only organization on campus that has access to healthcare internship and volunteer opportunities. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you at our events!

Mariana Garay, Graduate Vice President

garay

My name is Mariana Garay, and I am the Graduate Vice President for the HMA. I recently graduated with my BS in Biology and Business Administration, but now I’m pursuing a MS in Healthcare Leadership and Management.

The HMA has provided me with networking opportunities and more knowledge about the healthcare industry in general. I’m excited to meet many more students who are interested in helping make people’s lives happier and healthier through healthcare and changing the way healthcare is delivered throughout the nation. This year, I will focus on meeting graduate student needs, so please feel free to reach out to me with any input or feedback.

In my free time, I love giving back to my community, and I volunteer as a Spanish interpreter at a free clinic in Dallas on a regular basis. My hobbies include weightlifting and cooking healthy meals.

Nora Tassabhji, Undergraduate Vice President

nora

My name is Nora Tassabhji and I am the undergraduate VP for the HMA. This Fall, I will be graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Studies, and I’ll also be beginning the fast-track program in Healthcare Leadership & Management as well.

This is my second academic year being a part of the HMA, and I greatly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in the healthcare arena. The HMA has so much to offer; great networking opportunities with healthcare professionals, internships/employment, beneficial workshops and panels that will be of aid to your career path, and so much more!

The healthcare field has always been my niche- it’s an open field of growth depending on the track you want to pursue. Being in the healthcare field gives individuals the opportunity to make a difference and give back to the community. I hope to enhance the HMA by bringing in value to the organization with a positive mindset. I look forward to this year and to see what the HMA has in store for us!

Aisha Lee, Secretary

aishaHi! My name is Aisha Lee and this is my second academic year as secretary for the Healthcare Management Association. I just graduated with my B.S. in Healthcare Studies from UTD and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Healthcare Management and M.B.A.

The U.S. healthcare system has always been fascinating to me because it is unlike any other in the developed world. With a variety of issues in quality of patient care, access to health services, and the troubling rising costs of healthcare, the American healthcare system needs improvement.

Due to the imminent need for strong healthcare leadership, I believe that the HMA can provide a home for healthcare management students to gain the tools and connections needed to successfully become the next generation leaders in healthcare.

Sana Iqbal, Treasurer

sanaMy name is Sana Iqbal and I am currently a junior in DMHP studying Healthcare Management with a double minor in Public Health and Spanish. Healthcare Management is important to me not only because we are learning how to better our current healthcare system, but also because it is a field where people who care can help others in need.

I love being in HMA since it allows me to learn about the various career options we have as Healthcare Management students, while also connecting me to awesome alumni and other professionals! I am excited to serve as this year’s Treasurer to help facilitate successful events for our members and I am looking forward to a great year!
